Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series

Hillbilly Hundred Returns to Tyler County Speedway!

WAYCROSS, GA (July 14, 2016) - The nation’s longest-running dirt late model event now has a new home. Hall of Fame event promoter, Carl Short, announced today that one of the richest events in dirt late model racing will move to Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV in 2016.

The festivities will kick off on Saturday, September 3rd with the “Hillbilly Fifty,” which pays $4,000-to-win for Steel Block Late Models. Saturday’s program will also include a $5,000-to-win event for Fastrak Late Models and a $2,000-to-win event for AMRA Modifieds. Additionally, heat races will be ran for the Hotmods and Mod Lites.

The action heats up on Sunday, September 4th when the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series takes center stage for the “Hillbilly Hundred”. The event will include a complete program of: Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and the 100-lap, $25,000-to-win main event. The Hotmods and Mod Lites will compete their $600-to-win events, plus the Ohio Valley Roofers Legend Car Series.

“Tyler County Speedway was my first choice upon reaching the decision to relocate this season” stated, Carl Short. “It’s second to none when it comes to racing action as well as the camping and atmosphere” added Short. “I want to thank I-77, their fans, and Kenney for the hospitality over the past few years” concluded Short.

Tyler County Speedway is accustomed to thrilling, edge of your seat racing action. The last Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series appearance at the 1/4-mile bullring was September 7, 2009 – when Ray Cook scored this biggest win of his career, following an extraordinary battle with Earl Pearson Jr. and Scott Bloomquist.

The stars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series are expected to battle regional stand-outs such as Tim Dohm, Eddie Carrier Jr., Freddie Carpenter, and more, all chasing a $25,000 top prize. In 2015, Scott Bloomquist snatched the lead away from Don O’Neal on lap 79. Bloomquist held off a hard-charging O’Neal for the final 21 circuits to score his second-career Hillbilly Hundred victory. Jonathan Davenport finished third, followed by Steve Francis and Devin Moran.

Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV is a ¼ mile dirt oval nestled in the hills of scenic West Virginia along the historic Middle Island Creek. On site camping makes the Tyler County Speedway/Fairgrounds a race fan’s vacation destination, year after year, including primitive or full hook-up spots.
